Identify the connection being handed over
Ask the seller for the electricity account or connection number, a recent bill, payment receipt and the meter's location. Match the bill address and meter to the exact property or portion being sold. If a building has several meters, write down which one serves your unit; a neighbour's account or an old screenshot is not enough.
Check the current bill and meter reading
With the seller's cooperation, use UPPCL's official bill-view or consumer service to review the current account. Record the meter reading and date at handover, and agree in writing who pays charges up to that reading. Ask the local electricity office about any arrears or disputed charges before assuming that a paid-looking receipt settles the account.
Use the correct transfer service
UPPCL lists 'Connection Transfer' as a consumer service, separate from 'Name Correction'. MVVNL's official form calls the process 'transfer of connection / mutation of name' at the same address. If ownership has changed, describe that change accurately rather than submitting a spelling correction request. Ask the relevant MVVNL office whether the online route or the current form is appropriate for your account.
Prepare the documents the form asks for
The MVVNL transfer form asks for the existing connection number, contracted load, current consumer name, property address, reason for transfer and applicant contact details. Its enclosure list includes a processing-fee receipt, registered deed or succession document as applicable, a fresh application, ID proof and a no-objection from the existing consumer if available. Confirm the current requirements and amount with MVVNL before paying or sharing documents.
Keep the acknowledgement and recheck the account
The official form has an acknowledgement section with a reference number for later correspondence. Save that receipt and follow up until the consumer name and contact details shown on the account match the completed transfer. A changed bill name is an electricity-service record; it does not replace your registered deed or prove property title.
Next step
For a property being sold through Saaf Pata, ask us which meter and account the owner says belong to the property and what bill or receipt they have supplied. The buyer and owner should settle the handover reading and charges directly, then use MVVNL's current transfer process.
